“JD Vance is the kind of vice president that Donald Trump wants as his running mate for 2024 race. “
Donald Trump has picked JD Vance who is a senator in the state of Ohio as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. This was announced on July 15 on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social. Trump said:
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.”
In a US Senate 2022 financial disclosure, Vance disclosed owning between $100,001 and $250,000 of Bitcoin on Coinbase platform. He also supported reversing a SEC regulation mandating that banks should account for crypto as liabilities. President Joe Biden ultimately vetoed this regulation.
Vance’s political career is quite young. Backed by Trump in the midterms, he won his Ohio Senate seat in 2022. Vance backed Trump in the 2024 GOP appointments reach. But he wasn’t usually a big fan of Trump. This is the same man who called Trump “unfit” for office in 2016 and belittled anyone who voted him in as an “idiot”.
In Trump’s own words, Vance has been very instrumental as a mediator in Technology and Finance. He said that for Vance, this campaign will profoundly focus on the exact people for whom he fought so heroically for.
“Workers and Farmers Pennyslvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and all over this great country….”
Vance was already a sensation in 2016 for his book “Hillbilly Elegy”, where he described being raised by an unhealthy white, working-class family. This led him to identify as a “never Trump guy” at the time. Eight years later, Vance is a Republican senator and a vocal Trump supporter.
He is also an isolationist and have vocally expressed his disapproval to sending aid to Ukraine. His defense of Trump’s already-debunked claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged and that the mandate was stolen from him has also drawn fire. Vance stated he would have voted against certifying the results had he been in the Senate back then.
His economic prescriptions have divided the corporate world. He was funded by PayPal founder Peter Thiel in his 2022 Senate campaign, and he is a favorite of the Silicon Valley. He also hosted a large fundraiser for Trump in San Francisco last month. This fundraiser was organized by tech investors David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya. While Vance’s perspective has been alarming to old-school GOP faithful on Wall Street and elsewhere, they fear that should Vance become VP, he might end up reorienting the party’s direction for years to come.
