Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, revealed plans to invest $2.2 billion in Malaysia for the advancement of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

This investment is the biggest one in the company’s three-decade history. The investment aims to bolster AI infrastructure, set up an AI hub, and offer AI training to 200,000 individuals in Malaysia.

Microsoft’s presence in Southeast Asia continues to grow stronger, with a recent $1.7 billion investment in Indonesia and the establishment of Thailand’s inaugural data center region.

By having more than 200 employees in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Microsoft’s financial commitments are poised to make a substantial impact on the area’s economic development, particularly with Malaysia projected to make up more than 10% of this total.

In addition, it’s recent $13 billion partnership with OpenAI propelled the tech giant to the forefront of the AI industry. This collaboration resulted in a remarkable 17% surge in sales and a 20% rise in net profit.
